Spend the day in historic downtown Abilene. Start at The Grace Museum, home to three museums. Everyone will have fun at children's inter-active museum, the history museum or the fine arts museum. Next, stop in at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, tour the exhibit and participate in an art activity.
For lunch, picnic in Everman Park located across from the Grace Museum. Box lunches are available from several downtown restaurants.
After lunch head to Candies by Vletas to enjoy dessert of handmade chocolate.
Ride the trolley to Frontier Texas! where you can experience the big picture of the TX Frontier between 1780-1880. You'll feel the terror of a wolf attack, the chaos of a buffalo stampede, and the terror of a deadly card game shootout.
Wrap up your day with a movie at the Historic Paramount Theatre.

Spend the morning at the Abilene Zoo and Discovery Center. Abilene's award-winning zoo provides an important source of recreational and educational opportunities. The zoo is large enough to display more than 202 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates yet small enough to enjoy without wearing out you and the kids! Guided tours are available with advance arrangements.
Spend the afternoon in Nelson Park. Have a picnic and play on the playground at Fort Imagination.

Head to Safety City, a miniature city block that's complete with pedestrian crossings, mini-cars and bicycles. This program, ran by the Abilene Police Department, teaches street safety.
